Saugeen Shores Men's Probus Club is made up of mostly retired professionals and business men in Port Elgin and Southampton.

They meet the first Tuesday of each month and have the opportunity to hear guest speakers from a wide range of fields.

From entrepreneurs to politicians to those in the non-profit field, speakers bring to the group widely interesting topics and the chance to ask questions.

On Tuesday, February 2nd, Janice Mewhinney, Business Manager of the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre (BCM&CC), and Program Coordinator, Nancy  White, told local Probarians about the history of the Museum and the direction that it is headed in the future.

The BCM&CC has a broad outreach program and representatives travel throughout Bruce County attending various events to create awareness of the Museum in communities throughout the region.

"We have seen incredible growth," said Mewhinney, "and in fact our membership has grown more than 70 per cent over last year."

Mewhinney tailors her presentation to various groups and, given that most of the Probarians are retired and many have grandchildren, she pointed out the many on-going children's programs that are available at the Museum.  "If you have grandchildren visiting, this is the perfect place to bring them - especially on a rain day in the summer."

The Museum has also focused on forging partnerships and relationships with many organizations and schools for educational outreach.

"We have a thrilling interactive exhibit coming to the Museum this summer," said Mewhinney.  "It is based on the artist Chegal and is "Chegal for Children" that will be a very exciting art show for children to participate in."

One of the primary exhibits this year is also a return of Free Masonry in its 100th Anniversary year and the role that the Masons played in the development of the area's communities.

"We also have the 'Lunch and a Movie' series for adults coming up to chase away the winter blues," Mewhinney added. "The series begins on February 11th, features a delicious lunch and the uproarously funny movie 'Some Like it Hot' with Marilyn Monroe."

Mewhinney said, "Whether it's for the younger set or those who are in the not-so-young group, there is something for every age at the Bruce County Museum."

For retired men who have a social interest in meeting with other like-minded individuals and who would like to hear a wide variety of speakers over a coffee, the Saugeen Shores Men's Probus meets the first Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Port Elgin Legion.
