Saugeen First Nations elected their Chief and Council today but results as yet are unknown.

The election was held at the James Mason Memorial Centre at Saugeen reserve and, according to polling officials, the turn-out of voters exceeded expectations.   From the opening of the polls until 5:00 p.m., there had been a 60 per cent turn-out and the polls were to remain open until 8:00 p.m.

There were two candidates vying for the position of Chief, Gale Mason and incumbent Randal Kahgee, and over 30 running for nine council positions.
