Knox Presbyterian Church Burgoyne

It may not be a home but, for many early area settlers in the 1800s, it was the centre of the community and, therefore, Knox Presbyterian Church of Burgoyne has been included on this year's Christmas Home Tour 2009 in Saugeen Shores - Tara region.

The Presbytery of London actually established the church on July 29, 1862 asking the Reverend Andrew Tolmie to lead not only the Burgoyne congregation but also the congregation at what was known as First Southampton.

Originally, in Burgoyne, the congregation was known as the West Arran and services were held in the local schoolhouse until, some four years later, they met in the near-by Stark's Hall.  It wasn't until 1866 that the congregation decided to purchase the land where the church sits today and, where in July, 1869, a service of Dedication and Thanksgiving was held.

During the upcoming Tour taking place Friday, November 20 and Saturday 21, Knox Presbyterian Church will be open on the Saturday with refreshments and homemade treats being served from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a come and go basis.

The Tour, a fundraiser hosted by the Saugeen Shores Chambettes and the Tara Curling Club, will feature 11 homes, and the Burgoyne Knox Presbyterian Church, throughout the area, each uniquely decorated for the holiday season. Whether you're looking for decorating ideas or simply enjoy the beauty that Christmas brings to the year, this is the opportunity to see some of the most interesting homes in the area.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour and are available at the following local merchants:
