I think it would be a good idea to do an article on the Boy Scout Compost Sight in Southampton. I went with some grass clippings today and was astounded to see the amount of brush, tree roots and branches which have been dumped there despite signs that say not dumping of brush etc. Obviously there are either people who donít care or canít read. This is a good way to loose our compost area completely. It is disconcerting since there is no charge to get rid of brush etc at the dump.

Iím pleased to see that the story of the Chantry Island Light and Keeperís House is being written down before it is forgotten. So much work done by a relative few in the early years that may not be fully appreciated by those who now benefit from the finished project and the tours.

The ongoing commitment of the many volunteers in the later stages of the project is a testament to the quality of the people in the Saugeen Shores community.

I would hope it will be in booklet form eventually.

The last time I checked (recently, as I have several nieces and nephews in college and university), a university education was well over $10,000 per year! Not to mention residence fees, and living expenses, along with books!

Yet more ridiculous claims with nothing to back them up....

Very interesting letter from Mr. Crossling, but short on details. Is he taking part in a Port Elgin or Southampton Rotary mission project of some kind? What role is he or the Rotary playing in "saving lives" in Cameroon (as indicated in the heading)? Are others from the area accompanying him? This has the makings of a good human interest story for local readers, if developed fully. Maybe I missed earlier reports or letters from the Port Elgin correspondent?
--Dick Wright, Southampton

Editor: No...there have been no other reports. As one can see from Mr. Crossling's 'letter', internet communication is very limited in the region of Cameroon. We are attempting to provide a 'travelogue' but given the conditions from where he is sending, it is difficult. It is part of a Rotary endeavour to help provide things like clean drinking water and schools.

We hope to present a full report complete with photos upon their return to Canada.

Hi Sandy,
We are presently in Az and I clicked on the video for weather - what a super idea! Many thanks for taking time (in the cold and raw wind) to film this for the website. As we always say, a picture is worth 1000 words - and it is!

We really enjoy reading all the news from home. Many thanks again.

Cheers, Margaret Gruetzner

This story is not quite complete. If you have an old "red and white" health card, not a photo card, you cannot get a replacement in

Thank-you so much Liz for your article. It has been a very difficult time but Josh's positive attitude has gone a long way toward his healing. He has amazed all of his medical team, both here and in London.

Josh is thrilled with his new system! It was so nice to watch him playing video games last night - like a normal teenager. Now we just have to figure out what all the remotes are for!

He is happy to be back in school with his peers and he is progressing very well. It wouldnít have been possible without all the support of family, friends, the school community and his medical team.

Thanks
Nancy Easton

Re: War Brides exhibit opening.

I just wanted to follow up on the letter from Anne Holman. Openings of exhibits are included in our member newsletters which are sent out three times a year. The War Bride exhibit opening was listed in the Fall edition of our newsletter and unfortunately Anne had not received this particular issue. I have since contacted Anne after reading this article and a copy of the newsletter has been mailed to her. For more information regarding membership, exhibits, archives, events & programming please feel free to contact the Museum directly at 519-797-2080 or check out the website at www.brucemuseum.ca   Your comments and feedback are welcomed.

Liz--you are so right in your stance regarding municipal taxes being spent on items  which are the basic responsibilities of the provincial government. We should  commend our municipal council for going ahead with the projects you mentioned. We could wait for years before anything was done by the province, to alleviate the problems associated with the medical centre and  the school.

In a way this is similar to the centralisation of health services. Our residents will have to arrange their own transportation - -an additional cost which is first cousin to another tax, just so that the South Bruce Grey Health Centre honchos can claim a "savings" in THEIR budgets. And if we understand correctly the CEO could get a BONUS for arranging this.

Eastlink developed an annoying habit over the weekend of starting a program for a few seconds and then interrupting it with a commercial.  After the commercial was done, they switched back to the show for a few seconds and repeated the process again with the same commercial.  What gives?

We get letters and notes all the time from all over the world.   This note below is from a young person who was taught by David Archibald.  She is not a local person, but was in a composition class for children that David  taught.

She came upon David again on the Saugeen and Kincardine Times YouTube site, which contained a live recording done by David.

Here is the automated note we get from YouTube:

huntergirl350 has made a comment on Captain John Monroe by David Archibald:
omg he came to my school this week and wrote songs with us and other classes
He even gave me his guitar pick when i told him I played
