Erin Zorzi, President of Port Elgin Rotary, presents $1000 to Donna Giesler of the Bruce County Astronomical Society as Ron Mottram of the Bluewater Education Foundation looks on. The observatory model and some of the going into the facility are pictured with the Rotary banner.

The Bluewater Education Foundation is pleased to accept a $1000 cheque from the Rotary Club of Port Elgin. This donation will go towards the Astronomical Observatory that is to be built at the Outdoor Education Centre between Wiarton and Oliphant.

The new Astronomical Observatory is a partnership between the Bluewater Education Foundation and the Bruce County Astronomical Society. This new addition to the ‘Centre’ is designed to enhance the astronomy education programs for the students of Grey and Bruce and in the future become an adult and family centre for astronomy outreach programs presented by the Astronomical Society.

Over the past thirty five years the historic Mason Family Farmstead has been transformed into an Outdoor Education facility which now includes the restored century barn and farm house as well as a new dormitory/cafeteria building plus the new Bruce Power Learning Centre classrooms building. This Outdoor Education Centre is attended by more than 4000 students from Grey and Bruce each year.

When the Astronomical Observatory building is added, the ‘Centre’ will become a more complete package for outdoors and environmental learning experiences for school children, parents and families from Bruce, Grey and beyond.
