Serendipity. Anne Houghton met the previous owner of her home, Tony Byrne, when he walked into her garden with photos of what the house had previously looked like. He explained that the house had been designed and built by Bonnie and Ray McLay, whose son Jim McLay now lives on Southampton harbour.

It would appear that destiny played a part in who owned the house because both owners, the previous Byrnes and, now, Houghton, are from England.

Monarchs are fewer this year and slow to return. Their numbers have dropped sharply because of droughts through the southwest United States as they migrated out of Mexico northward. Also, the cold wet weather of Ontario this year has resulted in a fungal disease that has attacked them. Every one spotted should be treasured. These two were seen Sunday in Southampton.

Anne Holman and her granddaughter Jarah and Jarah's friend Veronika went out to Chantry Island Friday morning and cleaned the lighthouse. It is great to see the young kids doing volunteer jobs in the summer.

Anne McArthur was laid to rest today.  The funeral was at St. Patrick's in Southampton.  All her family and friends gathered at the family home at  the foot of Landsdowne after the funeral for a celebration of her life.   The day was perfect and it was as though Anne planed it in her precise and giving way. It was a special day for the Hanover Red Hats, as they were spotted in downtown Southampton. The group had spent part of the day celebrating the 80th birthday of member, Jackie Lichti, at Sauble Beach driving go-carts and, as one member (Deb) said, "We were just glad she didn't want to go hang-gliding!"
