100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce were excited to present their $21,800.00 donation for their June meeting to the Break Bread Community Meal Program. This program is operated by the Chesley Baptist Church. Our group of committed and generous women were so pleased to make a difference to this worthy initiative.
The Break Bread Community Meal program provides a hot take-out meal every Thursday at noon. They currently serve around 200 meals weekly. Their program serves primarily the Chesley community, but also delivers meals to Elmwood, Hanover, Durham, and other communities, as needed. They have also started to have a sit-down meal for those who are interested and want some social time.
Any person in need from seniors, to single parents, to those facing crisis, health problems, or living alone can sign up for a meal: anyone and all are welcome and meals are free of charge. They work closely with United Way who have provided support since the start of the program. All their funding comes from grants and donations.
This program opens its doors to those in need as often as they are able. They are especially proud of their link with the Supportive Outreach Service which provides mental and physical wellness support, peer support, addiction support, harm reduction supplies and education and housing and shelter system navigation to anyone who comes in on Tuesday mornings. They also have a community clothing closet that welcomes new or lightly used clothing, basic hygiene items and other necessities of life.

One of the many great things about being a member of the 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce is learning about the many different charities and initiatives that are available in Grey Bruce.
The group meets only four times a year for 1 hour each meeting and jointly selects a local charity or not-for-profit organization serving the Grey-Bruce area to donate to. Each member then submits her $100 donation and 100% of the group’s donations is then given directly to the selected organization.
At its May meeting, for instance, the group donated $21,400.00 to Grey Bruce Hospice, Chapman House and is on track to directly donate over $80,000 in the community in 2023.
