100 Women have done it once again. They have provided efficient and effective help to two organizations that help others.
On Friday, the Women donated $10,700 to The REACH Centre Grey Bruce. The Centre helps to enrich the lives of adults with developmental challenges or exceptionalities. It serves over 35 young adults who experience a diversity of challenges and strengths with participants travelling from Southampton, Wiarton, Meaford, Thornbury, Chatsworth and beyond.
The REACH Centre formerly operated out of a local church but now, through the support of many sponsors and donors, it has its own permanent space or ‘forever’ home. The 100 Women’s ‘April’ donation has meant that the Centre has been able to build an outdoor space.

100 Women Who Care meets four times a year and each member gives $100. The money goes directly to an organization that is selected by the women through a vote. There is no bureaucracy, no ‘middle’ person … the entire amount is donated directly. It is an efficient, effective and simple way to help those in need.
“This is our first donation over $10,000,” says 100 Women Chair, Lynda Legge. “We have been growing over the time of Covid. In April of 2020, we had 41 members and by November of 2020 we grew to 74. In the 2021 year, we continue to gain momentum. This year we will contribute a total of over $40,000 to four charities in Grey Bruce.”
As 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce continued to grow to 111 members during COVID, it mean that the ‘May’ donation also grew and the second donation was for $11,100 to Safe ‘n’ Sound, an initiative for the homeless that is located in Owen Sound.
The not-for-profit organization was created in 2007 by a group of local citizens who were concerned about the lack of emergency shelter and assistance in Grey and Bruce counties.
Safe ‘n’ Sound is also an organization that helps the homeless and where no money is exchanged for that help. Among the help are Breakfast and Grab N Go food bags, access to a shower, laundry, phone, internet, crisis intervention worker, peer friendship, service networking, and navigation to community services. They also operate an after-hours emergency housing program that provides emergency shelter in local motels.
“Every penny of this donation will go directly to the creation of Street Safety Kits to provide a tent and backpack full of survival items such as first aid kits, sleeping bags, and much more to people experiencing homelessness in our community, said Nancy Green-Wardell, Executive Director of Safe ‘n’ Sound.
