On Saturday, June 25th, our Beachin’ U11 PWSA Saugeen Shores Sting team made the journey to Petrolia to play two games against the Windsor Wildcats and the Wyoming Lady Wranglers.
Saugeen Shores Sting defeated the Windsor Wildcats after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at two with our Sting team batting in the bottom of the fourth when Isla Beith singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs and taking the lead and keeping it. Olivia Clark and Janey Harris both managed multiple hits and Brynlie Wilcox led the team in stolen bases. Peyton Myatt earned the win for Saugeen Shores. The right-hander went two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out five. Avery Sachs, Marisa Barfoot and Brooke Lamont all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory with a final score of 7 – 4.
There was not much time to celebrate their win. The girls found some shade, something to drink and took a moment to cool down from the mid-day heat. Then, they were back on the field to play the Wyoming Lady Wranglers. After the first inning, the two teams were tied and it looked as though it was going to be a tight game and at the top of the third, our Saugeen Shores Sting were down 9 – 7. But, Maelle Wiles started the offensive onslaught when she hit a whopper of a home run scoring three runs. The onslaught continued in the fourth with walks by Janey Harris, Avery Sachs and Olivia Clark, then singles by Marisa Barfoot and Isla Beith which contributed to a five run inning to solidify their lead and the girls never looked back. Maelle Wiles led the Saugeen Shores Sting to victory by driving in five runs. Isla Beith also racked up multiple hits. Right-handed pitcher, Marisa Barfoot, got the win going one and one-third innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out three and a final score of 15 – 9.
Despite the scorching heat, the girls pushed through to collect two wins and another great day of baseball. Next up, if you’re in the Saugeen Shores area, you can catch them playing in an exhibition game against the U13 Saugeen Shores Select team on Monday, July 4th at 7pm at Jubilee park before they move on to the Oakville Summer Slam on July 8th, 9th and 10th.
