98 the Beach radio in Saugeen Shores, a division of Bayshore Broadcasting, along with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, are pleased to announce the record breaking results from the 5th Annual Light the Way Radiothon.
The Foundation in partnership with 98 the Beach held their annual 12 hour radiothon yesterday. Officially there was no set goal for this year as organizers were uncertain following the many months of Covid restrictions and financial impacts on residents and businesses but hope remained that the community would come through once again and break the previous year’s fundraising record of $92,000.
This year, with the community’s rallying support and generosity, the Light the Way Radiothon raised a record breaking $185,000 dollars in 12 hours!!
Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, Tracy Murray stated “The Foundation and its Board Members are blown away by the final numbers of this year’s radiothon but aren’t surprised by the outpouring of support since the people, businesses, sports clubs and even the kids of Saugeen Shores and the surrounding communities have been overwhelmingly supportive of the Foundation over the years. We are so grateful to everyone who gave a gift or shared their story yesterday at Radiothon. The people and businesses that make up our small community always lead with their big hearts. This record breaking day of fundraising to bring a new x-ray machine to our community just proves that together we are all indeed Saugeen Shores Strong!”
“The Foundation is so fortunate and grateful once again to have 98 the Beach partnering with us for this event. The Radiothon wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for the support of Bayshore Broadcasting. Bruce Telecom is also a key partner for this event, supplying and setting up the phone lines to allow people to call in during the Radiothon said Mary Jo Arnett, Board Chair of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The Foundation would also like to thank our honorary Chair for this year’s campaign, Raj Verma representing Kinectrics who issued a Competimates Challenge to other nuclear suppliers in Bruce County to join them and donate to Light the Way this year.
Thank you to Tim Hortons, Boston Pizza, Pizza Delight, Swiss Chalet and Outlaw for bringing in food to keep the staff and volunteers energized through the 12 hour event. Thank you to Bruce Power for donating prizes along with Hill’s Insurance, 3 Sheets Brewing and Outlaw Brew Co. for your generous prize donations.
An extra special thank you goes out to each and every person and business that called in or dropped into the radio station during radiothon to donate. Thank you to Sandy Lindsay from Saugeen Times who came out yesterday to share our story. Your support is what makes this event such a success.
Light the Way runs until the end of December and is the Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser. We urge the residents and businesses who haven’t yet donated to please return their Light the Way donation form they received in the mail or donate online at www.smhfoundation.ca/xray or text xray to 226-777-3050, call 226- 930-1114.
