At 4:30pm officers responded to a report that a male is being held captive against his will in the town of Port Elgin. Police arrived on scene and spoke with all parties and determined that the male was an employee who wanted to go home but had to wait for another employee to finish the job they were currently working on. We understand that being stuck at work might sometimes feel like you’re being held against your will, but this is an inappropriate use of 911.

At 9:50pm police took a call from the Bright Shores Hospital advising that a nurse had been assaulted by a patient who had fled the building and was not dressed appropriately for the weather. Police located the female who had locked herself inside a vehicle (that had been unlocked) that did not belong to her and refused to open the door for Police. The window was breached by officers and the female attempted to flee on foot. Two officers were assaulted, attempting to apprehend the female. As a result of this incident a 39-year-old female of Saugeen Shores has been charged with assault x3 and mischief under $5000.
January 11th 2025
At 1:30pm Police were called to an apartment complex in the Town of Port Elgin for an unwanted person. Officers arrived on scene and located a male who was believed to be under the influence of a drug. The male was asked to leave by officers several times and refused to do so. Police attempted to remove the individual from the unit at which point he resisted police and became assaultive. A conductive energy weapon was used to assist police in placing the male under arrest.
As a result of this incident a 30-year-old of No fixed address has been charged with:
Assault Peace Officer x2
Resist Arrest
Fail to leave premises when directed

At 9:18pm officers located a 42-year-old male known to them to be on an outstanding warrant. The man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

At 9:40pm officers located a 41-year-old female know to them to be on an outstanding warrant. The woman was processed and released on an Undertaking with a future court date.

Police are reminding community members to ensure their doors to the residences and vehicles are locked at all times. This comes after a call for service on Elgin Street at 1:00am. A homeowner located an intoxicated stranger standing in their kitchen who had entered through an unlocked door. The homeowners attempted to help the male who became agitated and aggressive before leaving the property. Police locate the male on Market Street and he was arrested and held in custody.

At 6:20am a resident of Saugeen Shores who was known to be on a court imposed curfew was observed out of his residence. He was arrested and released with a future court date.

January 12th 2025
At approximately 5:30 AM on Sunday, a fire was reported at 659 Arlington Street, Port Elgin. This is a residential apartment building in Port Elgin, operated by Bruce County Housing Corporation.

On arrival, local Saugeen Shores firefighters identified a single-unit fire on the second floor of the building. A full building evacuation took place. Crews were on scene until approximately 7:15 AM, at which time tenants were able to return to their homes.
There have been no reported injuries. Victim Services is assisting tenants impacted.
