A Cappella Chamber Choir celebrates 25 years

For 25 years, singers of A Cappella Chamber Choir have been creating music through singing together.

Originally started by renowned vocal teacher and choral director, Jeannette Steeves, the Choir is now under the direction of Meghan De Jager.  “When I started with A Cappella,” said De Jager, “I didn’t know quite how special this group is and didn’t know the class of music that I was being exposed to under the direction of Jeannette. It wasn’t until I went to university and heard other choirs that I never found one that was quite like A Cappella with the musical excellence and precision with a passion for music. None of us would be here without Jeannette.”

The 25th anniversary concert on Saturday, November 30th, ‘Here’s to Song’ and held at Port Elgin United Church was a special program with the theme of ‘Singing Together’ that reflected the choir’s years of musical performance.

The musical selections included pieces from the Renaissance to folk tunes and traditional classical choral works.  From composers ranging from George Friederich Handel to John Rutter and Allister MacGillivray to Irving Berlin, A Cappella performed selections that included small ensembles and solos.
