The Gran Fondo Lake Huron is just around the corner with only one week to go (Aug. 20th) and Geordie Farrell, co-founder of the Saugeen Track & Field Club, has put out a challenge.
“Donate to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund by August 20th and your donation will be matched by my donation to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Gran Fondo Lake Huron mental health fund! DONATE at www.smhfoundation.ca/earlfarrell,” says Geordie.
“The Endowment Fund, set up in Earl’s name, was started in March, 2021 and currently sits close to $50,000,” she adds, “thanks to the incredibly generous donations of so many people.”
The amount has been invested and interest from the fund is being used annually to support patient comfort and care at the Saugeen Memorial Hospital. In 2022 the interest was used to purchase four iPads and heavy-duty cases for patient use. A couple of future plans for the annual disbursement of the Endowment Fund include both purchasing more ipads and helping to decorate the 2nd floor patient wing at Saugeen Memorial Hospital.
Geordie Farrell went on to say, “My current goal (and one I hope you will support me in!) is to ride 76km for Earl on August 20th in the Saugeen Memorial Hospital’s Gran Fondo Lake Huron. My pledge to those who donate is to match any donations up to 5,000** received for the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund between August 4th (Earl’s birthday) and August 20, 2023. All funds raised will be donated to the Gran Fondo mental health fund for the new Wellness and Treatment Centre. (**matched donation limit of $5,000…after my last fundraising effort I have learned not to underestimate how much Earl impacted the lives of those around him!)
Please help me celebrate Earl by donating to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund at www.smhfoundation.ca/earlfarrell . And just think, your donation will be supporting mental health as well!”
The Farrells founded the Saugeen Track & Field Club in 1982 and the Club continues to turn out athletes who excel in their sports.
Not only does the Club turn out athletes who excel, it also results in well-rounded individuals who then go on to apply what they’ve learned through dedication, determination and goal-setting to other areas of life as they move into the future.
