For 28 years, Erin Fenton has seen it all when it comes to serving the public in retail grocery.
At Vanderwerfs Independent Grocer in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores), she is a recognizable staffer in the store.

“She is awesome,” said store owner, Eric Vanderwerf. “She always goes above and beyond to help customers and steps in wherever and whenever she is needed. If we’re short cashiers, Erin is there. There is nothing she isn’t willing to do and she knows most of the customers by name.”
Fenton was nominated as the ‘Act of Kindness – I Made a Difference’ recipient by Denise Buttenaar.
“There are so many establishments and workers deserving of recognition but, having done my one day weekly shop for the past almost three years at Independent grocery store, I have to mention Erin Fenton,” says Buttenaar. “Her positive attitude, smile, friendly energy and ability to go beyond being helpful makes her my choice to be recognized. Working endless hours but still coming in with a positive attitude can not be easy. I applaud her dedication, sense of community and commitment.”
“I love what I do,” says Fenton, “and I have to say that owners, Eric and Cassandra, are fantastic when it comes to having the backs of their staff. In difficult times with some customers, they are always there and supporting us.”
Kudos to Erin Fenton
