Saugeen Shores air cadets received a helping hand from Port Elgin Legion on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023 when Griffin Squadron 340 Cpt. Bruce Schoettler accepted a donation of $4,000.
The Legion branch donated $1,500 and $2,500 came from the annual Poppy Fund.
Alex Taylor, retiring Chair of the Poppy Campaign, said that the 2021-2022 campaign was very successful. “People may not realize that the Poppy Campaign is a year-round endeavour. This year’s Poppy Campaign success means that more funds are available to be used to address veterans’ most urgent needs, such as homelessness and PTSD with the Service Dog program, and also to help out various organizations such as the Air Cadets. As a year-round program, donations can be made throughout the year by contacting the Branch.”
“We are very appreciative of the financial helping hand that the Legion provides,” said Squadron Cpt. Bruce Schoettler. “The funds will go toward expenses for our cadets who attend various training exercises throughout the year.”
