Annual Firefighters breakfast raises funds for Jr. firefighter program

The annual Saugeen Shores firefighters in-person breakfast came back with a bang after a hiatus due to COVID.

The breakfast, held on Saturday (May 28) at the Port Elgin fire station and that is a fundraiser for the Jr. Firefighters program, saw people lined up as the firefighters prepared breakfast at breakneck speed to keep up with the influx.

The volunteers and interim-chief Brian Johnston each had a task at several of the grills that were set up.

With delicious scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and hashbrowns served with toast and hot coffee and juice, families enjoyed starting the weekend off with breakfast and a chance to explore the fire department and trucks that invited young and young-at-heart to climb aboard after breakfast.

“The response has been phenomenal,” said firefighter Scott McMeekin. “All the funds raised will go toward the popular Jr. Firefighters program and the community always comes together.”
