It doesn’t seat many customers, but the quaint eatery that re-opens in the Spring each year is one of the most popular in Southampton.
Owner, Armen Higgins, has long been known for his support of the local hospital and hosts a FUNdraiser every May in support of the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, when all proceeds from coffee sales go to the Auxiliary.
Visiting tourists, summer and year-round residents, anticipate the seasonal re-opening of the popular eatery each Spring when chef Armen, a world-traveler, brings his knowledge of global cuisine to Southampton.
On Saturday, May 4th, Auxiliary volunteers helped in the cafe and also, since Mother Nature cooperated with an unusually warm Spring day, a ‘donation’ table was set up outside for cafe patrons and passers-by.
“We are thrilled with the generous support we received this year,” said Auxiliary organizer Jessie Schnaar. “People gave over $950 to our donation jar and, with Armen’s generous contribution of more than $1,350, the Auxiliary received over $2,300.”
Monies raised by the Auxiliary go toward helping the local hospital with equipment needs, as the provincial government does not provide any funding to hospitals for equipment.
