On May 16th, 2024 a long standing sporting tradition has come to an end.
Teacher Paul Bolton, who is about to retire, has been running Flag Football tournaments at Arran-Tara Elementary School for 23 seasons, culminating in the ‘End of an Era’ wrap-up featuring 48 teams from 15 schools arriving from all points across Bluewater.
Schools participating were Tara, Osprey, Saugeen District, Chesley, BeaverCrest, Beaver Valley, Hepworth, Mildmay, Macphail, Paisley, Holland Chatsworth, Georgian Bay, Alexandra, Walkerton, and Wiarton.
Every team was guaranteed four games with the chance to play for a banner in the Boys A, Boys B and Girls division. After a very competitive day the following teams were declared victorious.
Boys A 3rd Beaver Valley A1, 2nd Walkerton, 1st Tara A1
Boys B 3rd Hepworth, 2nd Peninsula Shores, 1st Georgian Bay
Girls 3rd MacPhail, 2nd Osprey, 1st SDSS.
Each championship team was also presented with a Championship belt which will be passed on each year to the winning team.
Funds were raised through registration and food and drink sales. Bolton was very pleased to announce that over $2,500 will be split between the Tara Food Bank, Pinball Clemon’s Foundation and another local charity.
Glorious weather and great sportsmanship carried the day to a very successful conclusion. Bolton is happy to announce that the tournament will receive a new home in Port Elgin next year.
