Under a clear blue sky with a slight breeze on a warm day, Saturday afternoon (July 9) was reminiscent of an earlier, gentler time, when garden parties were the norm.
The Bruce County Playhouse held its first garden party complete with entertainment by flautist Meryl Gillmore, harpist Janet Squire, Bruce VanderKleyn on guitar, keyboard and vocals Christine John who also performed duets with Tim Salmon.

The garden party in Southampton was hosted by Sal Laba, whose late husband, David, often performed at the Bruce County Playhouse Sunday afternoon open-stage performances for local entertainers.
Everyone was invited to wear a hat and, while some ‘chapeaux’ were funny and creative, others were elegant and sophisticated. Prizes donated by Southampton Olive Oil, TomBoi Ice Cream, Kitchen Pantry, Atlantis Esthetics and the Playhouse were presented in the various categories.

While relaxing, enjoying conversation and listening to the music, everyone also enjoyed decadently delicious chocolate-covered strawberries provided by ‘Enjoy the Bliss’ and French gâteau basque by Rita of Paisley with fresh fruit skewers by Brenda Murray.

The afternoon was also a fundraiser for the Playhouse that has brought live theatre back after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Its most recent production, ‘Murder for Two’, is currently at the Southampton Town Hall and, according to those who have already seen it, it is a hilarious musical comedy that features two actors playing multiple parts.
‘Murder for Two’ continues through July 23rd with several matinee performances added. For more details, times and ticket information, CLICK the IMAGE below.
