Bruce County Playhouse: Sexy Laundry, a hilarious play for a mature audience

Although it wasn’t officially opening night, for the Bruce County Playhouse production ‘Sexy Laundry’, it was an opportunity for the actors to play in front of an audience of invited volunteers and guests on Wednesday.

As the disclaimer says for the play, it is “mature content with strong language” and definitely not a show to take the kids to see but for adults, it is funny and sometimes poignant and, for many, probably has a ring of truth to it.

The comedic timing between the two actors, Thomas Albrecht and Samantha Colwell-Castles, is impeccable and the physical antics of the two had the audience laughing out loud.

The show summary:  Armed with a copy of “Sex for Dummies,” Alice and Henry check into a trendy spa hotel with a mission: to jump-start their 25-year marriage. Time has taken its toll – so have kids, stress and gravity. In desperation, Alice has decided that they either make this final, major effort to save their marriage, or they get a divorce and go their separate ways. Alice and Henry share their fantasies, exchange recriminations, and take turns confessing the details of their mid-life crises as the play flips back and forth between  comedic and serious. Henry and Alice’s touching and hilarious rediscovery of themselves through reminiscences from their youth and their inspiring efforts to restore their marriage will resonate with audiences of all ages.

The title itself, ‘Sexy Laundry’, wait for it … only becomes evident at the very end of the play.
