“As a company that makes a strong commitment to health-care programs and facilities, we take so much pride in our participation as the presenting sponsor of the Gran Fondo Lake Huron,” said Chris Mercanti, Manager of Community and Indigenous Relations. “We’re pleased to once again support an event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and raises funds for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.”

Tracy Murray, Executive Director of the Foundation, pointed out that it is the third year running the Gran Fondo Lake Huron fundraising cycling event in support of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation. “Bruce Power has always been such a strong supporter as ‘The Presenting Sponsor’ of this event and we couldn’t be more thrilled or grateful for their tremendous support of our organization!”
Bruce Power donated $40,000. to the Gran Fondo with the remaining $10,000 to be divided between two remaining fundraisers.
“Bruce Power has such a strong commitment to social responsibility and giving back to the surrounding communities especially initiatives in the healthcare, mental health and education sectors,” added Mercanti. “Bruce Power has committed to giving the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation $50,000 a year into 2023 and our Gran Fondo Sponsorship is part of this commitment.”
Bruce Power uses the strength of its people and innovative technology to provide electricity to a quarter of the homes, businesses, schools and hospitals in Ontario. “In order to do this,” said Mercanti, “we rely on the support and commitment of our surrounding communities and everyone that lives here. Given that, Bruce Power also has a social responsibility to engage, assist and champion the needs and causes close to home.”
Last year, the Gran Fondo Lake Huron, presented by Bruce Power, raised just over $180,000 which allowed the purchase of two new hospital beds, a portable ultrasound machine for the emergency department and a patient wander safety system.
“Currently, I do not have this year’s capital list of equipment needs but the funds raised will be going towards the purchase of medical equipment or if GBHS’s application for a new CT scanner for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital gets approved by the Ministry then the funds raised will go towards that multi- million campaign,” says Murray.
For the Gran Fondo, ALL riders are being asked to raise a minimum of $100 to help reach the fundraising goal for 2020. Remember that everyone needs a hospital and health care close by … whether a full-time resident, seasonal resident or visitor – you never know.
Some Gran Fondo sponsorship opportunities are still available. “If you and your organization are interested in supporting quality, patient-centered care close to home please contact Tracy Murray, Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation 519-797-3230, ext. 3230.
