Bruce Road 25 construction about to begin

The Bruce Road 25m (commonly known as the CAW road) Phase 3 construction project, south of Port Elgin, will begin on Tuesday, May 25th.

This capital infrastructure project will include the conversion of the rural road cross section to urban road standards and the installation of storm and sanitary sewers. The project also includes the construction of a trail, which will separate pedestrians and cyclists from vehicular traffic, providing enhanced safety and a more enjoyable experience for locals and tourists wishing to visit the beach.

Road closures will be in place for the majority of the construction project timeline, which is estimated to run until November, 2021. Local detours will also be in place and it is intended that local landowners will have access to their properties throughout the project.

This $5,249,509 infrastructure project combines work by Bruce County and Saugeen Shores into a single construction timeline to minimize the long-term disruption to local residents and businesses. The Town of Saugeen Shores is contributing $2,630,531 to the project, while $2,618,978 will be funded by Bruce County.

Moorefield Excavating Ltd. of Harriston is the contractor for this project. The project was initially promoted to include a roundabout in Phase 3 construction, but will now move forward with a “straight through” asphalt surface installation. A roundabout is still being considered for Phase 4 construction, pending the acquisition of the necessary land.
