Rotary Bucket Brigade 2023 raises funds for Southampton’s Canada Day Fireworks

The Rotary Club of Southampton extends its gratitude to the generous community members and visitors who made the annual Canada Day Firework Display a resounding success. Through their contributions, the Southampton Rotarians and friends were able to raise a remarkable $5,890 to help fund the cost of the fireworks.

At key entrances to the beach, a team of 16 dedicated volunteers donned their fluorescent jackets and collecting tins and ventured into the vast crowds, seeking donations on behalf of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce. Their tireless efforts paid off as they were met with an outpouring of generosity from residents and visitors alike. As a token of appreciation, Canada pins, temporary tattoos and small paper flags were handed out to the excited children who eagerly embraced the spirit of Canada Day.

The Southampton Rotary Club was delighted to present a cheque for $5,890 to the event organizer, Christine Mitchell, Executive Director of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, who said that, “This significant contribution will go a long way in ensuring that the Canada Day Celebrations remain a cherished tradition in Southampton.”

Bruce Waechter, a prominent member of the Rotary Club, expressed the organization’s sincere thanks to the community for their incredible support. He remarked, “We are immensely grateful to the kind-hearted individuals who dipped into their pockets and donated towards the Fireworks. Their generosity embodies the true spirit of community and exemplifies the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self.’

This year, the Rotary Club of Southampton also introduced an innovative way to facilitate donations. Through a partnership with Home and Community Services, the club utilized TipTap devices, enabling credit and debit card contributions. This added convenience allowed even more people to add their support for the Fireworks.
