Chantry Island Chambettes host a sweet FUNdraiser on Marine Heritage Festival weekend

Day two of the 12th annual Marine Heritage Festival attracted thousands of people to Pioneer Park in Southampton where the Chantry Island Cham-bettes presented the War of the Butter Tarts, with a Queen of the Buttertarts to be crowned.

The competition on July 22nd featured two renowned Cham-bette bakers – Jackie Smith and Carol Ann Menzies-d’Andrea … and it was up to the public to decide.

Chantry Island Cham-betts always ready with new FUNdraising ideas – Queen of the Butter Tarts Carol Ann D’Andrea (C-R) and close runner-up Jackie Smith (C-L)

Each competitor baked several dozens of their ‘secret’ butter tart recipes that were submitted for a ‘blind’ taste test.

Public participants in the test (by donation) tasted each of the competitor’s tarts without knowing who baked them and then submitted their vote.

It was such a popular contest that many were still wanting to ‘taste test’ after all were done.

At the end of the ‘short-lived’ contest, it was a close result between the two Cham-bettes however, Carol Ann Menzies-d’Andrea was crowned as Queen of the Butter Tarts for Marine Heritage Festival 2023.
