Citizens against Provincial Government Bill 23

Residents north of the Saugeen River in Saugeen Shores (ON) are concerned about the ramifications of Bill 23.
During several meetings that they have held, the group has consistently said they “… are not against development.  What we are against is ‘unchecked’ development that seriously impacts the environment.”

In a recent Letter to the Editor, the group has expressed its concerns.

To the Editor:

“We are submitting our intense concerns against Bill 23.  There is absolutely no need to take away green spaces and natural wildlife habitats to fulfill this act when Ontario doesn’t have the contractors, trades, supply chains and supplies to build 120,000 new housing units annually.
You (government) are giving developers an open ticket to destroy the areas that Ontarian’s love most, and intensifying this by taking away the voices of Conservation Authorities and the public.  We are already in a crisis climate change situation for the planet and you want to destroy more trees needlessly and put in a highway that nobody wants ( because of the green space that will be destroyed).

This is not about affordable housing, it’s about trying to give developers the most amount of money for their development and leaving citizens footing the bill for any negative impacts. Jamming in the maximum number of units and doing the minimum possible amount of mitigation.
We vow to never vote Conservative again, if Bill 23 passes.
Sincerely,
Concerned tax-paying citizens (Saugeen Shores) who have always lived and worked in Ontario.
