Community turns out to celebrate Rotary’s 85 years in Southampton

Southampton Rotary Club continues to celebrate its 85th Anniversary year, following its recent re-enactment of the original Charter night from 1938.

On Saturday, May 13th (2023), under unseasonably warm weather, the Club held a major community celebration at Jubilee Park in Southampton. There, the Rotarians held an appreciation free BBQ with free popcorn, decadent cupcakes by Rotarian Mary Ellen Higgins, a kids’ zone of games and live entertainment, with hundreds of people of all ages turning out for the celebration.

In addition, Saugeen Shores Fire Service was out with their variety of firefighting trucks and a tour of the station, all of which drew the attention of the young and young-at-heart.

The Park is one of the first accessible playgrounds in Saugeen Shores, was sponsored by Southampton Rotary Club and officially opened on June 28th, 2010.

“Today, this celebration is about giving back to the community,” said Sylvia Sheard, past-President.

Spanning the 85 years, the Southampton Rotary has continued to make its mark in the community with a wide range of projects.
