Council approves bump-outs for Southampton High Street

Council has endorsed the proposed Streetscape plan for High Street from Huron Street to Grosvenor Street that was presented to the Southampton BIA.

Director of Public Works and Engineering, Amanda Froese, said in her report that both Public Works Staff and the BIA were satisfied with the “functionality and aesthetics” of the plan.

The loss of parking spaces has been minimized and pedestrian crossings have been improved.  In addition, new trees, benches and planters will be added.

Design and construction of the two blocks will proceed in 2018 and 2019 with a tender to go out for construction in the fall of this year (2017).

The project was included in the 2017 Capital Budget at $74,000 for the construction and the design cost of $20,000 was included in the 2016 Budget.
