Saugeen Shores Police advise that ice Shelves are now forming on Lake Huron and, while tempting, they are dangerous.
These natural formations are created by water spray from high winds that freeze on already formed ice.
These scenic shelves appear enticing to the adventurous but can be deadly in an instant. Under each peak is a well that is obscured by unstable snow or ice covering. A person can fall into these water wells and may have little chance of self or assisted rescue.
