Demolition on historic church begins after being destroyed by fire

Demolition began today (Dec. 16/20) on Wesley United Church at Saugeen First Nation #29 in Bruce County.

                                                              Demolition work on Wesley United Church It was hoped that the church, which was almost completely destroyed in September by fire due to arson, could partially be saved, particularly, the bell tower.  It is still unknown if any of it, in fact, can be saved.

The fire destroyed the entire interior of the church, including many historical items and documents when the fire swept through at night.

Saugeen First Nation residents have said that “… fundraising efforts have begun to re-build the church …” which is an historical site and a central feature of the community.
