Drug and alcohol driving charges in two separate incidents

Drug Impaired and Collision

On Saturday, September 12th at 10:15pm officers responded to report of a two vehicle collision on Albert Street North near MacDonald Lane in Southampton.

An officer arrived on scene and located the vehicles that were involved in the collision. It was determined that one vehicle struck the rear end of the other vehicle while both were travelling south on Albert Street North.

The officer located male driver, of the offending vehicle, and formed the opinion he was impaired by a drug. The male was placed under arrest for Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired.

The male was transported to the Walkerton detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police to be evaluated by a drug recognition expert (DRE). After a series of physical tests the DRE officer determined that the male was impaired by a drug.

A 40 year old Port Elgin man has been charged with:

1. Operation While Impaired – Drug
2. Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – methamphetamine
3. Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance He was released with a court date in addition to his license being suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

36 Year Old Port Elgin Woman Charged

On September 11th at 9:31pm a citizen reported a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner travelling on Highway 21 into Port Elgin.

An officer located the vehicle leaving a fast food restaurant in Port Elgin and initiated a traffic stop on Goderich Street.

While speaking to the female driver the officer detected an odour of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The officer administered a road side screening device. The female provided a breath sample and registered a FAIL.

She was placed under arrest and transported to the station for proper analysis of her breath.

At the station she provided two samples of her breath that were double the legal limit.

A 36 year old Port Elgin Women has been charged with: 1. Operation While Impaired – BAC over .80

In addition to the charge her license was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She was released with a court date.
