Dry conditions mean fires can ‘get away’ – Fire Chief urges caution

On Sunday afternoon (June 10/18), Saugeen Shores firefighters responded quickly to a ‘brush’ fire located behind Kenorus Camp Grounds on Hwy. 21 after a 911 call was received.

According to a bystander, the camp grounds had been trying to clean up the area over time as they were looking at a possible expansion.  “These firefighters are amazing,” he added.  “They leave their families on a Sunday afternoon and, in a matter of minutes, they were here.”

“Everything is extremely dry because we have had no rain in this area,” said Fire Chief Phil Eagleson.  “Something as simple as burning some brush, can easily get away from a person and we really encourage people to not have an open fire without taking full safety precautions.”
