Better late, than never.” First and only hole-in-one of the entire 2020 golf season occurs on final day. (C’mon now, really?! What are the chances of that happening?!)
It took a grand total of exactly 189 days for it to finally occur, however, the 18-hole course layout at Whispering Hills Golf Club between Hanover and Walkerton, finally got a hole-in-one on the final hole of the day, on possibly the final day of good weather this golf season. The 143-yard 18th hole named “Relaxing Farewell” is where the ace was made.
As the club wraps up it’s 95th anniversary outdoor golf season, it would just simply not be complete without closing the year with an ace on the very last hole played, and especially done by such a great, regular local customer and friend of the golf club’s owners, John Comyn.
Regular Whispering Hills Golf Club golfer, John Comyn, 48,of Paisley scored the first hole-in-one of his lifetime in golf with his trusty TaylorMade Burner 2.0 8-iron and Powerbilt TPS Distance golf ball on possibly the final golf hole played of the 2020 outdoor golf season. Comyn, a graphic design artist employed at the Cox Signs company in Walkerton plays a lot of golf at the local full 18-hole layout every weekend, all season long, with co-worker Gary Evans, of Walkerton, who snapped the photo on Comyn’s camera phone while Comyn pulls his now very famous ball out of the hole. Comyn will receive a custom-made etched crystal trophy with the date and details of his ace, along with a compartment on the trophy to display his favourite golf ball of his career thus far.“For how busy it was this season, it’s actually pretty hard to believe we didn’t have more hole-in-ones. A lot of ball were hit this golf season and members were out every single day,” said Darrell Day, General Manager.
The feedback that the club has received this season was that members and guests played the absolute most 18-hole rounds of golf in a single golf season (some played well over 100+ rounds!) than they ever have played before — with the golf course being open for play for a total of exactly 189 days — (as of November 20).
The local golf club has been extremely busy very late this September, October and November with so many members taking advantage of the gorgeous bonus weather we’ve been so incredibly lucky to receive, playing extended extra rounds of golf before the nasty weather comes, and the snow flies to cover the course with a white fluffy blanket to put the course to bed till next April 2021 reopening.
