Early Saturday morning (Aug. 26), fire crews in Saugeen Shores were called out in response to a fire at Sparkles Laundromat in Southampton.
According to Fire Chief, Ed Melanson on site, both stations, Southampton and Port Elgin, responded quickly and “…knocked down the fire so it appears there may be minimal damage. There also didn’t seem to be anyone inside at the time.”
Later however, it appeared there were hot spots that were also quickly dealt with part of the ceiling tiles being removed.
Southampton Station Chief, Brian Johnston said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation however, it appears that it may have been due to a wiring problem.
A sign on the door indicates that the facility may open again as soon as possible and customers are encouraged to use the laundromat in Port Elgin at the corner of Waterloo and Market Streets.
The Chiropractic clinic next door also suffered considerable smoke damage.
This is the second fire at the same location in almost one year to the day, as the first took place on August 12, 2022.
