At a residence at Wellington and Pierson Streets in Port Elgin, on Monday afternoon, there appeared to be a BBQ fire but, according to Fire Chief Phil Eagleson, it was called in as “an explosion”.

“Anytime we hear that,” said Chief Eagleson, “we respond quickly with as many as possible.  At this particular incident, we have more than 20 on-site.  Thankfully, it wasn’t an explosion and no-one was hurt.”

On the prior evening, September 20th, a fire broke out in a ‘townhouse’ development on Ivings Drive.

According to Chief Eagleson and interim Police Chief Kevin Zettel, the Ivings Drive fire is still under investigation and two buildings in the complex have been evacuated.  “It is strictly a precaution,” said Zettel, “and we expect that people will soon be able to move back in.”
