Fishing trawler gets caught in ice

A fishing trawler found itself caught on ice at the mouth of the Saugeen River at Lake Huron today, Tuesday January 22nd.

The captain had tried to break through the ice in an attempt to reach the still-open water of Lake Huron and, apparently, to try to retrieve fishing nets.

Once caught, he reversed several times and tried to again break through the ice but ultimately got hung up with the river behind him beginning to freeze over again.

In the evening, more weather moved in with snow and increasing winds as the temperature began to climb out of the deepfreeze that has blanketed the region for the past few days.
