Fundraising initiative for special hospital equipment reaches final goal

The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) was happy to present a cheque for $100,000 to Grey Bruce Health Service (GBHS) on Monday, October 26th.

This donation closed out the recent fundraising initiative in Saugeen Shores for the purchase of four new defibrillators for the hospital in Saugeen Shores.

“The community was very supportive and helped to fill the need to cover the cost of this needed life-saving equipment for our local hospital,” says Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray.

Murray points that the government does not fund the purchase of new equipment for hospitals, therefore, it is up to the community to raise the funds to purchase these crucial items. Members of Saugeen Shores stepped up to the plate including groups like the Rotary Club (Huron Shore Run), the Southampton Resident’s Association, Tundra Technical, Boston Pizza as well as individual donors who got creative and raised funds through golf activities and garage sales.

“A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this life saving campaign successful,” adds Murray, “Your gift will truly save lives in Saugeen Shores!”
