Giant vegetables coming to town at Pumpkinfest 2022

Only one day until Pumpkinfest 2022 begins.  One of the biggest attractions of the annual Pumpkinfest in Port Elgin is the weigh-off of giant vegetables that begins on Saturday morning. (Oct. 1/22).

From giant pumpkins to tomatoes to the tallest sunflower and the largest cabbage, the competition is keen between growers from across Ontario and Quebec.

Many have come close to Canadian-and-beyond records. The weigh-off is carefully monitored and weights are live-streamed.  While prizes range from the  ‘Heaviest Pumpkins’ at $3,000 $1,500 $1,000 $500 $300, the recognition for many of the growers is how they have grown their vegetables.

The weigh-off takes place in the Missionary Church (former old Port Elgin arena), where visitors can view first-hand the incredible giant vegetables as they are weighed.
