Saugeen Shores Police have advised that there has been a concern regarding an increased number of elderly persons purchasing large amounts of gift cards from local stores.
The Federal Government or any organization, will NOT direct anyone to purchase gift cards.
A senior employee at Port Elgin WalMart confirmed that more seniors have recently been attempting to purchase gift cards. “One lady said that ‘someone’ on the phone had told her to purchase $1,000 in gift cards. I asked her if she knew the person and, of course, she didn’t so I explained that it was a phone scam.”
Talk to your parents and grandparents about common phone scams and direct them NOT to purchase gift cards for “the federal government” or any similar fraudsters.
