The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Gran Fondo ‘Change-a-life Challenge’ is a big winner along with several of its fundraisers.
“The goal of the Gran Fondo was to raise $100,000 for three much-needed ECG machines,” said Foundation Executive Director, Tracy Murray, “and, once again, the entire community stepped up to raise $113,000 to exceed our goal.”
This year, due to COVID, the entire event was virtual but that didn’t stop fundraisers. In 2021, the Gran Fondo presented by Bruce Power, offered several major prizes based on levels of funds raised by those whose names were then entered in the prize draws. The first $1,000 raised by an individual put that name into the draws with another ballot for each additional $500 raised.
On August 19th, the prize winners were announced by Murray, who drew the winners at the local radio station, 97.9the Bruce.
1st Prize: $10,000 toward rent or mortgage – Foodland employee, Niomi Laferrier, who raised $2,182
2nd Prize: $ 6,000 toward Gas for a year – Foodland employee Nancy Czarny, who raised $1,521
“We are extremely proud of our staff,” said Foodland owner Martino Catalano, “and are delighted that our two staff, Niomi and Nancy, won the 1st and 2nd prizes. Overall, our staff raised $6,140 and our goal was $5,000. They did an absolutely great job of fundraising for our local hospital.”
