In what was a fairly close election, Greg Nadjiwon with 291 votes defeated incumbent Chief Veronica Smith (218 votes) and has re-taken his seat as Chief of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
Nadjiwon previously served as Chief from 2015 to 2021, when Veronica Smith was then voted in as Chief in what was another close race.
Nadjiwon is passionate about creating opportunities for his community and supporting youth in their academic pursuits. With the support of Bruce Power, the Greg Nadjiwon Health & Wellness Scholarship will be awarded annually to one deserving student pursuing a career in the field of health and wellness and who promotes a healthy lifestyle.
In 2020, when a partnership was formed between SON and Bruce Power, Chief Nadjiwon said that, “As we move into the next phase of our partnership, it is important that we keep our goals for this project top of mind. Many members of our community have been impacted by cancer in some way. Working together with Bruce Power, SON is playing a leadership role in the fight against cancer while at the same time building economic opportunities for our territory, for our people and our communities.”
