Historic Saugeen Métis (HSM) are hosting their 10 annual Rendezvous on August 11th in Southampton (Saugeen Shores).
Not only is it the 10 Anniversary of the Rendezvous but it is also the 200th Anniversary of the Saugeen Ojibway Piché String Wampum Exchange. As part of the celebration, there will be special wampum themed displays and a wampum themed children’s craft.
Everything takes places in Pioneer Park at Southampton Harbour (rain venue Southampton Curling Club) on Saturday, August 11th from 11:00 -3:00 p.m. where there will be vendors and Métis Cultural Demonstrations along with Children’s Crafts.
While listening to the ever-popular Métis fiddle music and dancing by award winning fiddler Shane Cook & The Woodchoppers (https://www.shanecook.com/bio), there will also be deliciously fresh, deep-fried lake whitefish on a bun and refreshments, moderately priced.
Everyone who lives in, or who has visited Southampton, knows of the Historic Métis home of Aunt Annie near Southampton Harbour and, now, HSM is offering the opportunity to see the inside of the home first-hand with guided tours between 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
