R&R Rescue & Resort is run by married partners, Rachel Salisbury and Robert Given. Together, the couple is living a life-long dream of helping animals and offering a wide range of pet and animal rescue services.
At their property near Wiarton on the Bruce Peninsula, R&R offers a broad spectrum of services, from adoption to boarding, grooming to training and are often at Pet Valu in Port Elgin offering grooming services such as nail trimming.
“We mostly take in owner surrenders, animals in crisis from owners whose next step would often be euthanasia. We offer these dogs and cats a future they otherwise may not have,” says Rachel Salisbury. “We are a home-based rescue, so the animals are not kennelled 24/7 while they are with us. They are integrated into our family and pack. They are given veterinary care, love, play, exercise, and training until they are ready to be adopted.”
They also offer a wide range of grooming through Grey and Bruce Counties. Recently, at Pet Valu, they held a fundraiser, offering nail trimming for both dogs and felines, and saw approximately 70 pets throughout the day [although services are suspended for the month of December holidays]. Beginning in January, walk-ins will be accepted when they are at Pet Valu approximately once a month.
From Pet Valu, the couple was invited to the Chantry Centre for seniors in Southampton where they were surprised with a box filled with hand-crafted mini-blankets for rescued kittens and cats.
“We had yarns donated to us so we asked some of our senior members if they would like to knit or crochet squares that could be make into these mini-blankets,” said Connie Barker, Centre President. “The result is some 18 little blankets to help make kittens and cats more cozy.”

“This is wonderful,” said the couple. “These will make such a difference for our cats to say comfy.”
