Hospital Foundation Spring Fling night brings Vegas to Southampton

It was a ‘welcome to Vegas’ style night when the Southampton Curling Club was transformed into a casino for the ‘Spring Fling’ fundraising event for the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.

While for some it was also a chance to once gain get glamorous and don evening wear, it was a come-as-you-want-to-dress event that was meant to be fun for all.

The Sheards and the Macdonalds were definitely ‘Vegas’ style

It proved to be a fun and popular event as people crowded around the tables to try their luck as professional dealers kept the cards flowing and dice rolling while others took advantage of having their selfies taken at the photo stop.

                                                      All 10 tables were filled

There was also a silent auction, with a difference, filled with incredible donated items.  At the end of the evening, everyone cashed in their ‘winnings’ (chips) for tickets that were then put into the auction items of the their choice.  A ticket was then drawn to determine the winner of each item.

To start the draws off, the first was for the winner of the 50/50 draw which saw an excited Steve Rutledge of Southampton winning the cash prize of $1,010.  “Wow, this was definitely a surprise and for sure made it worthwhile coming out to this great event!” said Rutledge as he collected his winnings.

Appetizers were provided by the Outlaw Brewing Co. and the bar was provided by Three Sheets Brewing while music by Sundance of Owen Sound had the crowd up on the floor.

Although a final amount raised is far from being determined, it was by all accounts a resounding success.

“People in this community are unbelievably generous,” said Foundation Executive Director, Tracy Murray.  “We also had a mystery bottle draw that sold out in a half hour.  It was such a fun night and everyone I spoke with said what a “great idea” it was and what a “great event”. We are just thrilled with the turn-out.”
