Rotary Huron Shore Run proceeds for 2018 were handed out on Sunday, August 26th.
The event raised a gross total of $75,000 and the net proceeds were divided between the local hospital, Saugeen Track & Field Club ($5,500) and the Port Elgin ($5,500) and Southampton Rotary ($5,500) Clubs for community projects.
The Saugeen Memorial Hospital was the big recipient when Jim Barbour, Chair of the Hospital Foundation accepted a cheque for $38,000 which will go toward equipment.
Marlene McFarlane (absent) raised over $5,000 as an individual and Sarah Putnam raised $1,500 (absent)
This year, there over 800 participants, 50 community sponsors and 80 volunteers with a record number of teams. The Walker House team raised $10,000.
“We are so proud of our community for stepping forward to support health care close to home,” said June Van Bastelaar, Co-Chair. “We have already started the process of plannng for another successful Rotary Huron Shore Run to be held on June 1, 2019.”
“We also want to thank all of our sponsors who helped to defray the costs of the event,” said Co-Chair John Van Bastelaar. “In particular, we want to thank our Premier Sponsors: Barry’s Construction, Bruce Power, Eastlink, the Runner’s Den, Southampton BIA, Scotiabank and the Walker House that has continued to the home of the event.”
