In an open letter to Mayor and Council of Saugeen Shores, Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) President Frank Saunders reiterated that the preferred location adjacent to the Bruce county Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton would no longer be pursued due to public debate that “… created a distraction from this incredibly exciting opportunity for our region”, said Saunders.
He stressed that the NII, in order to be successful, needs the support of the host community. “We appreciate the strong supportive messages we have received from the Town of Saugeen Shores, from its outgoing and incoming Mayors, Municipal Council and many community members in considering another location within the Town of Saugeen Shores.”
Saunders said in his letter that consideration will be given to a future location in the Municipality of Saugeen Shores, prior to exploring other locations across Bruce County and subject to reviewing the Town’s proposal early in the New Year.
