It’s Fire Prevention Week – visit your local fire hall during Open House

Today, Wednesday October 11th, is the middle of Fire Prevention Week and Saugeen Shores Fire Service volunteers were at the Plex in Port Elgin on Tuesday evening, October 10th, with information on this year’s theme … “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention.”

Deputy Mayor, Diane Huber, whose late father was a Fire Chief, dropped by before Council to chat with the volunteers.

Ever community involved, Mowbray’s Canadian Tire of Port Elgin was also on hand to donate smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The purpose of Fire Prevention Week is to educate kids about how to prepare and stay safe in case of a fire. This is an important life skill in school and beyond.

Did you know? Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths.

Some simple tips can help prevent kitchen fires

Given the geography of the community, Saugeen Shores is fortunate to have two fire stations – Port Elgin and Southampton.

Everyone is invited to tour the fire halls during Open House this week:
