Lamont Sports Park Phase 2 Campaign officially ends

The Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign presented its final report to Council on Monday night.  Co-Chairs Robert Stanley and Mike Myatt both expressed their delight at the campaign’s tremendous success.

“We surpassed our original goal of $1,000,000,” said Stanley. “By hitting $1,700,000, the Town can build new amenities for this world-class facility. I’m just elated.”

Council had originally authorized the committee to raise $1M and committed to matching those funds with an additional $1.25M.  This will allow the construction of two (2) additional youth baseball fields and an accessible playground.  In Spring 2022, Council authorized additional fundraising to construct two youth batting cages, a 200-seat pavilion, and a storage building.

“I can’t say enough about the work of our campaign team,” said Co-Chair Myatt, the Town’s Vice Deputy Mayor. “My fellow Co-Chair Rob Stanley and the entire committee: they all went far beyond the call of duty as volunteers.”

Both Myatt and Stanley praised Bruce Power and its suppliers, local unions, the Town’s business community, service clubs and residents.

“This campaign has received incredible financial support from our community, and that is due in no small part to the committee’s hard work,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “On behalf of the Town and this Council, I want to thank the committee for bringing in these significant donations so we can have a facility that will benefit the Town for years to come.”

Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park officially opens in May of 2023.  Construction for Phase 2 will get underway in the summer of 2023, with a planned opening in late 2024/early 2025.

The committee says its fundraising efforts have essentially ended, but they expect to announce a few more donations by the end of the month.
