To the Editor:
I want to acknowledge the contributions that Ann MacKay, the outgoing Vice President of Saugeen Rail Trail Association, has made to the Saugeen Rail Trail Association (SRTA).
The SRTA is one of the Town’s bests assets, it connects our town with its active transportation system, but it connects us in many more ways. The SRTA connects us socially as people who walk and bike together, it connects us to nature, it connects us to fitness, and it connects volunteers.
I want to thank Ann for her years of service as a volunteer with the Saugeen Rail Trail Association. President Ken Mercer has said that Ann has filled practically all the positions on the Board, as well as pitching in to help other members whenever they need help with their tasks. She also likes to help with spring clean-up and flower gardening, beyond her board duties.
Connecting us socially, connecting us with fitness and connecting us through volunteering, is exactly what Ann MacKay did everyday in Saugeen Shores. Ann, and her husband Gord, have made, and continue to make, a significant contribution to Saugeen Shores on many fronts. They have connected us by organizing all kinds of team sports and fitness opportunities; connected us socially by providing a community centre, a place where the community gathers for celebrations of marriage,\ and celebrations of life, for outdoor festivals, and for community events.
Ann has profoundly and positively influenced our community, and I deeply thank her for all she and her family has done and continues to do.
Saugeen Shores is a better place because of you. I wish you well and wish you blessings as you move on to do other things, or just take more time for yourself, which you well deserve to do.
Best wishes,
Bud Halpin
Port Elgin Ward Councillor
