Local golfers off to Canadian National Championship

Thomas Forsyth, Hayden Duplantis, Josh Hopkin, Kenneth Bollen and PGA Pro Aaron Brush of Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin will now have the opportunity to win a Canadian National Championship.

The team of amateur golfers won the Greater Toronto RBC PGA Scramble Final earlier thus week hosted at Oslerbrook Golf and Country Club in Collingwood, finishing ahead of 17 teams to earn a trip to the national final at prestigious Cabot Links Golf Course in Inverness, Nova Scotia in early October.

“It was a special round,” said Duplantis. “We made lots of putts, Aaron rolled one in from 50 feet or so. It was a strategic course that requires players to place themselves in good spots around the course.”

The team qualified for the 18-hole RBC PGA Scramble regional tournament through winning the local qualifier event also held at Saugeen Golf Club earlier this summer.  The team-focused scramble format considers the handicap of each golfer when calculating their final score, allowing anyone who has a registered Golf Canada handicap the chance to participate and win.

The group will compete against teams from all over the country at the October final.

“We cannot wait to get to Cabot in October,” said Duplantis. “It’s been a heck of a year.”

Now in its ninth year, the RBC PGA Scramble is the largest grassroots amateur golf program in Canada. In 2024, participants competed across 180 local qualifiers from coast-to-coast. For more information, visit rbcpgascramble.com.
