The owners of two local Home Hardware stores have provided a massive boost to the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Phase 2 campaign. Jeff and Sarah Gauthier — the proprietors of both the Port Elgin Home Hardware Building Centre and the Southampton Home Hardware — have given a $50,000 Home Run Donation to the fundraising effort.

“This donation will allow the Town to add additional features at the Park,” said Vice Deputy Mayor and Campaign Co-Chair Mike Myatt. “The committee thanks Jeff and Sarah for their amazing contribution”
This donation means the Home Hardware name will have a place on the lifetime donor board, as well as on a service building planned for a later date. The stores will also receive an outfield sign at one of the park’s diamonds for 20 years.
“We are so excited to take part of this amazing endeavour,” said Sarah Gauthier. “Baseball has always been a major player in Saugeen Shores. This is a win/win for our community that will draw more people to our area and we believe it will lend to other opportunities in the years to come.”
The campaign has surpassed its initial goal by raising $1.7 million towards the Park’s second phase. Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park officially opens in May of 2023. Council expects to see the Phase 2 design this month, with construction expected to get under way in the spring of 2023. This phase includes two youth baseball fields, accessible playground, 200-seat pavilion, batting cages and storage building.
